All logging always adds to fire risk

Nethercote residents are right to be concerned (News Weekly Oct. 26, 2015) about increased fire hazard over the summer from large quantities of logging debris following the recent Nullica forest woodchipping (90%+) operation.

There will certainly be an increased fire risk, but not just over the coming summer.

As a direct result of this logging, Nethercote will face an increased fire risk for the next 45 years or more.

Even aged young trees of uniform height in a dense, dry regrowth forest are always a greater fire hazard than a mature moist forest. Thanks to the woodchipping industry, too many of our regional forests have ended up like this.
