EDEN CHIPMILL
SHIPPING ARRIVALS
Check our live monitor to see when
woodchip carriers visit the chipmill to load woodchips.
The chipmill wharf is located at the south side of Twofold Bay.
This map shows ships moored at the wharf or heading towards the
chipmill. Be careful not to confuse ships with plantation
pine carriers which load at the Multi-Purpose wharf adjacent to
the chipmill on its west side.

EDEN CHIPMILLSECURITY
How to get there and other useful facts...... As the map shows, the main
way into the chipmill is along Edrom Road. Turn off the Princes Highway
about 18 kilometres south of Eden town. The chipmill is 17 kms along
Edrom Road.
Contact us for advice on the best route and up to date security
information.
In June 2002, the chipmill built an electric fenceme heavily fortified so give serious
thought to how you approach it.
Don't risk an arrest or being beaten up for nothing!
By sea, select any of the small coves to the east
of the wharf for your landing. The headland is steep.
For
details of the electric fencing system, check the Gallagher Power
Fencing website at:
http://www.security.gallagher.com.au/
In
2005, they added a substantial concrete footing under the fence,
perhaps to discourage wombats from digging under it.
Be careful. If you enter chipmill grounds without permission you may be
breaking the law and may be prosecuted or removed with "reasonable
force." South East Fibre Exports used to employ a security officer called Col
("The Angry Ant") Clarke, who was not averse to a bit of biffo.
However, the current generation of security guards is more civilised.
In "normal" times, woodchip carriers visit Eden on average about twice per month, berthing
at the chipmill wharf. Loading takes approximately 2.5 days. In 2015,
there are fewer ships, approx one every 5 weeks.
Offices and boardroom are approximately 100 metres inside from the gatehouse
on the left hand side, beyond a small car park. Mobile phone coverage
along Edrom Road is patchy, but excellent inside the chipmill itself.

Email
Nippon Paper
Although Nippon Paper no longer owns the Eden chipmill, it intends to
continue buying woodchips from Eden until the end of 2018 at least.
Select the text of our suggested message and paste it into your e-mail
message box
"This message is on behalf of the native forests of south eastern
Australia. It is also to support your company's policy of moving away
from native forests as a source of fibre for paper manufacture. Nippon
Paper has done the right thing by selling SEFE, but it is unacceptable
for your company to continue buying native forest woodchips from Eden. Australia has enough plantation hardwood available to substitute for all
the native forest woodchips produced at Eden and your company could be
showing leadership in the paper industry by using plantation chips."
Send a letter in English or Japanese to Nippon Paper.

TIMBER COMMUNITIES AUSTRALIA
The well resourced Timber Communities Australia is the loggers' lobby.
It is largely bankrolled by the woodchipping industry. It showed some
rare good sense a few years ago when it changed its name from the Forest
Protection Society, but has shown very little since. Why
would anyone want to visit its website? Well, you can get details of up
coming events such as TCA conferences and you can find out what they are
saying about us.
